Hillbama: The Largest Tax Increase since WWII   

Hillbama believes that tax increases are necessary to balance the budget and finance the coming heathcare crisis.  From my understanding, letting the Bush tax cuts expire would 1) increase tax rates across the board 2) the marriage penalty be re-imposed 3) increase long term capital gains to 20% 4) Tax on dividends will be increased up to 39%  5) AMT tax will hit 20-30 million middle american's and  6) bring back the estate tax.  

Now although I agree that it's impossible to run a country without taxes and responsible spending, wouldn't now be the wrong time to have the largest tax increase since WWII while the country is currently trying to recover through a recession?  Furthermore, if you want an increase in economic growth, increasing taxes on investments is not the answer.  Shouldn't we maintain the current tax cuts or even reduce them further in the short term?   

Furthermore, I fugure if you want more domestic and international businsses to do business in the US then the US needs to be more favorable on the corporate tax rate and regulatory enovirnment (Sarbox) as well.  I mean really, the more regulation and taxes you hammer into the system, the costlier it becomes to conduct business here.  Let's make the business environment conducive for economic expansion and growth instead of the opposite. 

BTW...here's what Clinton and Obama would look like if they merged. 

After reading Obama's interview in TIME (?) I am convinced that a Democratic government will lead to more taxes although I am not so sure about the spending part of the equation. Bill Clinton was able to keep spending down for the most part during his tenure and the Bush tenure has seen an explosion on the spending side. Of course Clinton for the most part had a Republican Congress and Bush had a mixed Congress so read into that what you will. On the other side we have McCain who has stated that 'he is not good on the economy.' In my eyes, that does not measure up in my book. Especially for an economy tettering on the verge of a prolonged recession. IMO, a lot of what is being done right now is just to put off the actual pain until the next administration takes office.

It's called paying your bills.

The Republican Party used to stand for fiscal responsibility. Unfortunately, Mr. Bush attempted to run a trillion dollar war and lower taxes on top tier earners at the same time. The results have been ruinous. Grover Norquist may approve, but the rest of us are trying to control our nausea.

The Democrats are obligated to try to rectify this carnage by putting a grownup in the White House and trying to bring some fiscal order. All of Mr. Bush's tax giveaways will not be repealed, but some of them should and will be capped.

Mr. McCain is clueless and uninterested, and will be unable to help anyone except the four other people in his wife's tax bracket. If you've ever balanced a checkbook, you can see that the Democrats are the only route to any kind of responsibility.
