Paul B. had his own thoughts about our article "U.S./China: A Look over the Fence":

"In your article [...] you say, 'TV has once been described as "chewing gum for the eyes", and the writer of that quote might have been here in China at the time. The subliminal message of the entire media is: "It's not safe outside, stay at home, it is safer here, we will protect you."' One could be forgiven for thinking that this applies to the U.S., not the Chinese, media."

The same occurred to Don H.:

"[There] was a phrase "The subliminal message of the entire media is: 'It's not safe outside, stay at home, it is safer here, we will protect you.'

"This sounds like the U.S. government and media with all the 'homeland security' measures that are being put into place. In fact, your recent 'You will be assumed by authorities to be the enemy if you so much as venture outside of your own home' in the 'Homeland Security, Code Red' article a few weeks ago."

None of the usual insults or death threats this week; instead, flattery and praise from Mohammed B...

"I really admire and look forward to your creative topics. You successfully stretch the intellectual parameters. I am anxiously awaiting your next issue."

... and John B.:

"As a Canadian frustrated with the poor & biased reporting in the regular news media, your weekly message is a breath of fresh air. I look forward to it just as much as I do The Economist."
