    * History to repeat?...

    Good day... And a Marvelous Monday to you! WOW! What a great weekend enjoyed by yours truly... Lots of friends, to share good times with! The weather tried to ruin everything, but we didn't let it! I'll begin this week's Pfennigs with a little story that happened this morning...

    I arrived in the parking garage across the street from our building, not exactly the best situation for someone that's partially crippled and has a blood clot in their leg, but that's a story for another day. I got out of my car, and said, 'Hmmm... Wouldn't it be nice to see the euro trading with a 1.22 handle this morning?' Then said, 'Nah, it didn't look too good on Friday.'......
  • A New All-Time High For Gold!

    * Deflation to deep six Gold?

    * The U.S. sponsored Ponzi Scheme...

    Good day... And a Terrific Tuesday to you! I hit the "wall" yesterday about 2 o'clock... All the fun and sun of the weekend, became the wall, and I hit it square on! But I'm well rested now, so here we go!

    Front and Center this morning... Gold has reached a new all-time high this morning. Yesterday I kept watching the shiny metal tick higher and higher, and I would yell out across the desk each rise in Gold... Gold was $1,250 when I turned on the screens this morning. It has given back $2 since, as I did some reading and research, but Shoot Rudy, the move yesterday was something to admire!...
  • A Jobs Jamboree Friday – 6/4/2010

    In This Issue..

    * Euro gets beaten down again...
    * Why should we do anything now?
    * Brazil keeping inflation away...
    * ADP says 55,000 jobs created in May...

    Good day... And a Happy Friday to one and all! I suspect this will end up being a Fantastico Friday, but right now, not so much... Today is the Big Jobs Jamboree, and the cable news stations are spinning it quite nicely. So nicely put that stock jockeys are believing the spin and running stock futures higher. I've got that to talk about today, and more debt stuff... Believe me dear reader, I wish I didn't have to talk about this debt stuff, but I feel as though me and a few of my friends are the only ones doing so, and I don't want you to become like the rest of the country and become 'comfortably numb' with the deficit figures!...
  • Intervention?

    In This Issue..

    * Euro recovers 2-cents...
    * Gold gets trashed!
    * Questions on China...
    * Counting the deficit correctly...

    Good day... And a Thunderin' Thursday to you! The heavy rain is back! Just in time to ruin my first Cardinals game of the year too! Yes, a day game today, and it's raining... UGH! Oh well, time to start the letter... There are a couple of Big things to talk about today that happened yesterday, so let's get set, ready, go!

    OK... Front and Center this morning, we have the euro's rise yesterday, and Gold's awful performance... Let's go to the euro's rise first...

    The euro did a little magic act yesterday, defying gravity, by rising VS the dollar during the day, while every other currency not called U.S. dollars, Japanese yen, or Chinese renminbi, was getting sold like funnel cakes at a state fair. Does this sound suspicious to you? It did to me... And I told Chris during the day, that it sure looked like European Central Bank (ECB) intervention......

    * RBA surprises the markets...
    * Gold moves higher...
    * Obama offers up record deficits...

    Good day... And a happy Ground Hog day to everyone! Yes, today is the day Phil decides if we are going to have more winter weather or a quick spring. While I can find something to like during all of the seasons, I do find myself hoping we see a quick end to the cold weather as we turn the calendar over to February. Unfortunately, the folks who make a living predicting the weather don't believe we will get an early spring this year, but their record is about as good as Groundhog Phil's, so we will just have to wait to see what Mother Nature brings us. Kristin and I will be joining Chuck down in Orlando tomorrow, so hopefully a few days of warm weather will hold me over until April....
  • Stocks Still Retain Some Pull...

    In This Issue..

    * Profit taking supports the dollar...
    * India posts strong data...
    * Sweden's inflation is above target...
    * Bill Gross, and Puru Saxena on a Tuesday!

    Good day... And a Terrific Tuesday to you! We reached the freezing mark yesterday, YAHOO! The first time this year! OK... So, we've got that going for us, here in St. Louis! A HUGE story going around St. Louis, and the country for that matter, yesterday, regarding the admission by Mark McGwire of taking steroids... Has the town buzzing... What? They didn't already have that Idea before? Hmmm...

    Well, the euphoria around the risk assets of currencies and commodities got watered down as the day went on yesterday, and that continued throughout the overnight and morning sessions in Asia and Europe. The currencies and commodities haven't turned on a dime, they just stopped moving higher VS the dollar... Although, now that I've said that, the euro has dipped below 1.45......
  • U.S. Companies To Repatriate Profits?

    In This Issue..

    * Non-dollar currencies rally...
    * More deficit spending...
    * 10-year yields at 3 month highs...
    * A nice 9-year run for the non-dollar currencies...

    Good day... And a Marvelous Monday to you! The last Monday of 2009! And Yes... I'm Baaaaaacccckkkkk! Bet you were wishing I would remain on vacation through to the New Year... That's OK, I was wishing for the same thing last night! HA! I hope your Christmas or other celebration was grand... Mine was... Little Delaney Grace stole the show... I sat there watching her, thinking, how great it must be to not have a care in the world, except if her 'baby' needed changing!

    To not have to worry about deficit spending, knuckleheads making decisions against the wishes of their constituents, nut cakes running around shooting off missiles, and ramping up nuclear capabilities, and the beat goes on... The beat goes on......
  • The Markets Ignore Bernanke...

    In This Issue..

    * The dollar continues to get bought...
    * German Investor Confidence weakens...
    * The Carry Trade shifts to Japan again...
    * More deficit spending...

    Good day... And a Terrific Tuesday to you! Not a Terrific Tuesday for the non-dollar currencies though, as the overnight markets have marked them down once again, and favored the dollar... More on that in a minute... I got a chance to meet up with some old friends and co-workers last night, at a holiday party... I had to leave early though, my leg couldn't stand that long... UGH!

    OK... The daily noise, has the bias to buy going toward the dollar this morning... For some unknown reason, and I emphasize this here... The markets are not listening to Big Ben Bernanke, when he says that current near zero interest rates will remain for 'some time to come'... You see, the markets are under the impression that he's giving us a head fake, and will raise rates aggressively very soon, for the data that has printed recently is of the "need to raise interest rates before inflation takes the economy hostage" kind of stuff......
  • Aussie Jobs Surge!

    In This Issue..

    * High yielders rebound...
    * Kiwi surges 2-full cents!
    * SNB softens tone on franc strength
    * The U.S. Debt Clock...

    Good day... And a very cold Tub Thumpin' Thursday to you! I remember back to this summer, when in August, we were camping, and it was only 75 degrees, and old man at the country store said to me... 'We're going to pay for this come winter'... I have a bad feeling right now that the old man will be bang on! UGH!

    OK... A chill crept over the dollar bulls overnight, when Australia announced their latest jobs data. Since that time, the dollar has been sold, albeit not frantically, but sold nonetheless, and the high yielders, like Aussie dollars have been the main destination of those funds created from the dollar sales.

  • Treasury Issuance Hits Record Amounts!

    In This Issue..

    * It's a Risk On Day... Kind of...
    * Gold hits $1,171!
    * Germany's IFO hits a 15-month high!
    * Even the NY Times talks about deficit spending!

    Good day... And a Terrific Tuesday to you! A Risk 'kind of' On Day... Which I believe will be difficult to hold on to as we draw closer to Thursday. The volume will dry up, like I said yesterday like using a Sham Wow (Vince where are you?) and... There will be all kinds of position squaring ahead of Thursday, for many traders, including yours truly, will be making this a 4-day holiday weekend, and good traders do NOT leave themselves out on a line with open trades before leaving for 4 days!...
